Derek Talks Children’s Poetry at the Kenyon Review Blog - February 9, 2016

In the final days before the end of the 2015 Christmas shopping season, I posted a pair of reviews for Kenyon Review Online. The topic? Children’s poetry, that wonderfully underrated genre enjoying a bit of a renaissance of late. There are some fantastic children’s poets–Jon ScieszkaBrian Lies–worth checking out if you’ve got small ones to read to or enjoy light verse and literary parodies.

The article comes in two parts: “A Last Minute Shopper’s Guide to Children’s Poetry” and “Children’s Poetry: Four Short Takes.” I cover a total of seven books, spend a good bit of time discussing ballad meter, and recommend a fine poetic rendition of Moby-Dick
